As captain of the Penn State rowing team I try to photograph the emotions of the sport, from erg workouts in the gym, to racing, to the fun times watching the races, there are always moments that are worth capturing.
Head Coach Ryan Laudermilch was a Penn State rower less than 10 years ago, and through the coaching circuit, he found his way back to Happy Valley. Laudermilch was a member of the the Penn State Varsity Four that placed third in the historical Dad Vails Regatta in 2009.
Penn State rowing spends a lot of money on equipment. The newest boat in the fleet, the John P. Dixon, is the team's most valuable and precious piece of equipment.
Freshman, Ethan Gilbert takes a selfie at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta to send to all of his former teammates from high school. Gilbert had raced earlier in the day when his Novice Four placed third.
Penn State cruises down the race course during the Varsity Men's Eight competition at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta. The boat was a mix of novice and sophomore rowers who were thirsty to prove their talents.
Penn State rowing land practices take place at 6:00 AM in the White Building Gymnasium on the Penn State campus. Practices are mandatory and will help start the day off with a sweat.
Novice rower, Jason Turner bows the Penn State eight boat that was able to capture fourth place at the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta.
Aside from the actual racing, regattas are good bonding with teammates. While observing the other races, Sam French wins an inner-team competition by stuffing 9 cheese puffs in his mouth at once.
